A Discovery of Stellar Duplicity During an Occultation by Asteroid (324) Bamberga
Keywords:
binary star, asteroid occultationAbstract
On 13 May 2025, an occultation of the star TYC 6717-00974-1 (Gaia DR3 ID 6193195991606404480) by the main-belt asteroid (324) Bamberga revealed that this was in fact a binary star. The distance between the two components was determined to be 0.002″ ± 0.0007″, with the position angle computed as 12.8° ± 26.8° and separation as approximately 0.8 AU.
